2001 350 rancher es no reverse

I have a 2001 Rancher that will not go into reverse. It will up shift all gears and down shift no problem. I have adjusted the clutch and adjusted the Reverse assist lever. I have read on the forum that the angle sensor goes bad but before I start throwing parts at the Rancher I would like to know if the display has anything to do with reverse. My display does not light up or none of the lights work. It still runs fine but no reverse. It will shift into reverse manually. Any help would be great. Thanks
