There is a couple possibilities here. First one. You could just be hearing the honda tick. Which they all do. The best way i have found to see if its to loud is put a helmet on and see if you still hear it. I generally judge all of my valve adjustments that way and it hasnt failed me. But with the tight valves you had it could have been very quiet and thats the change thats throwing you off. On a personal note i would rather hear valve chatter then nothing. As valves being to tight is more of a concern then to loose. Expecially in an interference engine where valve to piston clearance is thousandths of an inch. The second possibility would be the timing chain is stretched. Which would explain your tight valves to start with. And then from there any adjustment you make is actually a few degrees off since your lining up the flywheel which is connected to the cam by the timing chain. That being said though generally valves will get tighter over the years as the valves beat out there seats and sink into the head further over time. I wouldnt suspect any damage to the cam or rocker arms because they would be loud no matter what and im gathering they were quiet before adjusting? Thats my .02 on the matter.
