iv seen another post on here were someone said they had a recall for the 2000-2001 ranchers because of a shift plate breaking, I would try that first and if not explore other options

If it won't move with the manual shifter, my guess would be the shift plate as well. Like YellowRancher said, there was a recall on them for them breaking. You can replace it without pulling the motor, but I'd read through a few how-to's to make sure you understand the process before beginning.
