Hello eveybody.I am new to the forum.I just bought a 2000 Fourtrax 350 ES.Only 3800 klms.Great shape. I am having two issues=>
1) Electric shift sounds weak (labours) and momentarily shows "-".
2) It will sometimes not shift into reverse.

Any help would be appreciated.I would also like to know how the reverse shifting system works if someone could explain.

I would start by reviewing the service manual if you don't have one here's link to ecopy. Troubleshooting causes given in manual could lead initially to:
Old battery?
Clutches need adjustment?
Shift motor
Simple stuff

This reverse shift switch was the problem.Stays open circuit all the time.Grounded the wire going to it and goes into reverse fine.Part on order.

I recommend switching to a synthetic oil like Rotella T6, too. My 2000 was a bit slow to shift at times but when I switched to Rotella T6 I noticed much quicker shifts. Plus it starts better in the cold.

It doesn't have to be Rotella, by the way. Just as long as it's JASO-MA rated.

I use Mobil 1 full Synthetic in my Honda Foreman 2002 and my 1999 Kawasaki Bayou 220. Just use the Viscosity called for in owners manual. Synthetic oil helps protect your motor in the heat and cold, plus superior Lubrication.

clean machine ..... I would invest in a good battery maintainer and if your battery is not fairly new then get a new best quality battery you can get , and dielectric grease every connector -------- I don't have an ES and never will but ride with a few of them and it seems to me the ES models are very temperamental about having good voltage

Don't listen to those nimb skulls about the pil... They are telling you to put automotive oil in your wet clutch bike!!!



DO NOT USE AUTO OIL


You need proper ATV oil..

The smell says it all...


And have a look at the threads on your drain hole... The 350 case has super weak drain bolt threads

I also adjusted the clutch.Huge difference in shifting smoothness.

I just put in Kimpex ATV oil 10w40.
