Past few weeks been having a weird miss fire. Does it when hot, idling no load, slight load, full load. I tested full load by holding the brakes and holding carb open.

New plug. Only issue I can think is flakey jet or ignition box.

Ideas? Besides rear tires, rear bearing, sprockets and chains , it's all she's had since new.

It's saw very very little work.

Is it an ignition missfire or a dirty carb issue? You might try to remove the spark plug boot from the coil wire (untwist it carefully), cut off about 3/8" of the wire, then twist the spark plug boot back on. Do you have a service manual for the bike? You can check HERE for one... maybe get lucky?

I can't tell which it is.

It's sporadic over any load or rpm, hot or cold, dry or humid, or any throttle range

I do have the service manual.

essentially its either ignition or fuel. I drained the bowl. the best I've done without disassembling the carb is to pull the choke shut at wot hoping vacuum will open anything up.

ignition wise I've replaced the wire with another that didn't have issue, and installed the factory plug the machine calls for.

so it's basically carb jets or ignition module.

just curious if anyone has had issues with this same type of machine.

Try to run it on choke/partial choke. If it runs better in any part of the throttle range then I suspect the carb is dirty. Drain the fuel tank, inspect the petcock etc. and adjust the valves. In my opinion, always completely drain and inspect the complete fuel system durin a carb overhaul so you can be sure everything is good without any other doubts in case you still have problems.

I'll look into it this weekend. It's such a old machine it's difficult to find parts for. Starter is an example . I've put 3 sets of brushes in it, but nothing else is available as a whole unit.

Hopefully ignition parts are available. I've been using bikebandit for all my supply.

Can you cross reference parts using partzilla? If so, check out the TRX250A starter, may well be the same unit.
