hi, as the title say, i have 2 hondas trx250 1986, both are exactly the same, all oem parts except the tires but the thing is, on cold start, one always need the choke otherwise you will crank all day long while the other one, one kick and it start up right away, no choke nothing and it idle higher but as soon it getting warm up, the idle become normal, look like it has an automatic choke while the other one doesnt.... and yes carbs are cleaned

why is that? both are exactly the same, they even share the same oil, spark plug, air filter, oil filter...........:eek

Great machines these 250’s are, have you got any pics of the carbs? Sounds like one isn’t OEM.

some pics of the carb and one of the 250, those are from the one who need choke on cold start, i cant take a pic on the other one right now, the other 250 is at my campsite

I will compare those pics to my carb tomorrow, its late now here in the UK. Looks different to mine though I’m sure.

Also, those front hubs on that 250 look 4x110 pcd, am I right? If so then that is quite a late 86 model or had the hubs changed at some point.

just guessing ?, something is wrong with the carb. could be anything from lack of fuel ?, to the air/fuel mixture jet/needle not being set right ?, to a dirty air filter ?. sticking choke ( enrichment valve ) ?, a lot of things come into play here .

You can't expect to be able to compare behaviors of two carbs/motors unless/until each of them are tuned identically. Both carbs need some attention it sounds like.

Here’s a simple solution....

If they both run and ride well and the colour of the plug is correct then use them until issues get worse. Some ATV’s start without choke and some need choke.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! (Common saying here in the UK)

then a simple carb inspection is in order, prob just a cleaning ?, or pilot/air fuel mixture correction ?.
