Hi everyone,

New to the forum and forums all together but I'm at a bit of a loss.

So this all stated after sitting for the winter. The bike starts and seems to idle just fine. When I hit the gas it seems to bog down until I hit about half throttle then seems to run better not great but better. Also with the choke half on it seems to run better as well?

First I checked intake manifold no cracks, then rebuilt and cleaned the carb, Replaced spark plug cleaned air filter, replaced ignition coil, stator, rectifier. (Had a charging issue)
Seems to be getting air from somewhere just can't find where?
Any suggestions would be greatfully appreciated fishing season is coming up and I would love to get back out. Thanks in advance.

What carb rebuild kit do you use? Is the diaphragm in the top of the carb split at all?
Best way to check for external air leaks is use starter fluid and spray around the carb whilst running.

It was a shindy carb kit the guys said and the honda dealer ship it was the best one they had.

I did take the carb apart and soak it over night and blow it out with compressed air. Checked the diaphragm as well no cracks or holes.

I'm going to soak it again today and try blowing it out again.

I done a carb yesterday , soaked it 1/2 a day and blew it out very well , then sprayed it with aerosol carb cleaned and blew it out again ------------------- be sure your tank and petcock are clean as all that work to clean the carb and dirt could be reintroduced as soon as you hook the tank back up , if you have any doubts , drain the tank and have a look with a flash light and see whats going on in there

you said the diaphragm looked good , did you pull and look a round the base for it detaching the slider ---------- bogging down 1/2 throttle makes me think high speed jet clogged or maybe the journal between the diaphragm camber and the body could be clogged , as that slider has to move up to achieve high speed or the timing is thrown off by a loose chain

Diaphragm looks good I pulled around it no tears looks good everywhere around the slide.
Is there a chance it could be the cdi? I'm pretty confident that the carb is good and clean along with the gas tank and petcock. By the high speed jet do you mean the main jet?

I had carb issues several months back and the guys here kept saying the same to me, are you sure it’s clean. I was sure, however multiple cleans proved otherwise. The emulsion tube (brass tube with multiple holes in it) have you cleaned throughly in those small holes? Did you get a replacement in the Shindy kit?

I've had many clogged carbs in my hands that I wanted to give up on. One of them I'll never forget, was taken off a small Honda generator and I cleaned that carb so many times I lost count! I finally got fed up with it and dunked the carb casting into a jar of muriatic acid for about 10 minutes! I don't recommend anyone try that... cause the acid attacks the aluminum... but it worked in that case because there was a tiny rusty steel fragment stuck inside a narrow passage. The muriatic acid dissolved enough of that rusty steel around its edges, so I could finally blow it out of there with compressed air.

Don't ever give up on a carb until its completely junk! Hang in there and you'll eventually win...

Gas cap is on open. And I pulled the fuel line off the carb and turned the pet cock to on and the fuel is running out strong. The full diameter of the hose.

Also I pulled the air box off and looked in at the slide as I gave it some gas. The slide seems to have a bit of hesitation at the same time the bike bogs down. (About Half throttle). But then once I get passed that it seems to suck it open all the way.

Also had it out this weekend for the first day of fishing season. Seems gutless in 4th and 5th. Even once I'm passed the bogging down I seem to be getting at half throttle.

I've seen little Johnny do that same thing with concrete acid, about ten minutes. Worked like a charm, that carb was a complete mess...

Well I guess I'll have to give it another going over. Any suggestions on how to get whatever is in there out?
i just take a can or two of gum out carb cleaner, break them all the way down as far as i need them, some good ole hand cleaner, gum out, wire from a wire brush, and followed by a few times with compressed air, and I've yet ran across today that a carb would not run good. most times i use a shindy carb rebuild kit if i am restoring them from the ground up.

Here is a breakdown of your carb. Make sure you take every part out of the casting. Sometimes they require more than one tactic and lots of different tools and supplies to get perfectly clean. Don't be in a hurry... these buggers can take a lot of time. You can search for a recent carb cleaning thread by Goober for a good example of attention to every detail and pristine results.

So I soaked it again last night and most of the day again today. Been blowing it out with compressed air and a small blower still no luck doing the same thing.

There is a small hole on the bowl side of the carb that the gasket goes around. Should you be able to blow air through there fairly easily? It seems restricted but I don't know how it's suppose to be. Haha starting to go insane!
