Never use a 12 point socket on an impact to get the clutch off...I'm not going to lie, last time I put the clutch on, I put the clutch nut on very tight not knowing the power my cordless impact had, having only bought it that day...

Long story short I've rounded (and i mean rounded) the change clutch nut. (probably the worse nut on the entire bike to round off...) as i am about to split the cases to replace the left hand side crankcase this nut has to come off...i do have a spare mainshaft and clutch but dont want to have to use them unless necessary...yes i know that I've scored the clutch but I'll clean that up if i ever get it off....

I'm open to ideas...air chisel, dremel, machine shop (<--hopefully last resort)?

Thanks and any help is appreciated...

I’d use a Dremel or die grinder. You probably know but you don’t need to cut all the way to the threads, just close and then lock some vice grips on the nut and it should release. If it doesn’t you’ll have to make a cut opposite as well.

As many times as I have done it , I forget , the clutch nuts are one left hand thread and one right hand thread , did you go the right way ? ------ on something like that I have had luck with 2 chisels , a sharp one to make a dent , then a flattened tip one to move the nut , just be sure you are going the right way

My goodness that's a round nut! If you have a welder handy you can weld on another nut on top of that one. Refer to the pic. This is more of a last resort. Just throwing some another idea out there :)

Success! Afew hours yesterday afternoon trying to get it to move with a chisel and a hammer I had no luck, but I realised that as I was hitting the nut with a chisel it started lifting up the edges a tiny bit on the nut. Enough to hammer on a 27mm 6 POINT socket, put the impact on the socket and off came the nut. And the threads are still perfect on the mainshaft!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and help.
