Bought it with engine removed and the clutch side case only finger tight and they said it needed clutch work so I replaced the both clutches. I put the shifting mechanism back together and when the case goes on the shifter is soooooo stiff and unusable. I tried playing with the ply screw and nut but made no diffrence. I've looked at diagrams and everything appears to be there.

Something in the assembly might not be lined up, the cover gasket missing (?), or a clutch plate in the change clutch might have gotten pinched as you tightened the four bolts on the pressure plate. See the attachment.
