Been working on this project fourtrax that i bought, and finished cleaning carb and motor. Then went to test compression which was zero, and try to jump it off but nothing happened... no light turned on, nothing switched the starter solenoid out and all those wires and went to jump it off and it started sparking like crazy, tried it both ways with the solenoid so it couldn’t have been backwards. I don’t know what it was. Any ideas?

Is it possible you installed the solenoid incorrectly? Where and when is the sparking occurring? As soon as you hookup the battery or when you switch on?

Post a pic of the wiring you did. The small wires hook to the small terminals of the solenoid

Did you buy an OEM solenoid or a cheap noname brand?

Did it run when you got it?

Also when you say jumping it off I don’t know what you mean. Jumper cables from another battery?

Or shorting the solenoid terminals? If so yeah that will cause a LOTTA sparking when you cross the starter terminals and short it to the frame with the tool you’re using. The technique is to use a screwdriver across the starter terminals of the solenoid to bypass the starter switch relay, using the screwdriver as a current pathway directly from the battery to the starter. It’s not easy to “do it right” I describe it that way because You have to be deliberate and quick about it–and careful you don’t touch anything else with the tool.

It sounds like you didn’t do it right
