Ok, so my trx300 fw has a leak from the cylinder gaskets at the head and where it meets the bottom end. previous guy who worked on it left me a s**t sandwhich. I have got everything back to good order except this. I am going to re do the gaskets. I ordered a top end gasket kit. now here is my question, should i add rtv as well for extra sealing or is that uneccessary? The atv is used for mudding and will have whole motor submerged in water. will regular gaskets be sufficient for this type of use? im just not sure if putting rtv on the gaskets has any negative effects or not.
Thanks!

do not use RTV, it's not needed and gets everywhere. You will need something like rtv for the rocker cover, hondabond works, I think Permatex makes a product that is similar. As far as the paper gaskets go just coat them in oil and install them.
Don't use RTV anywhere. Use Yamabond 4 or Hondabond on the cylinder base gasket. You'll need it there because the case halves come together under that gasket and that seam may seep oil if not sealed.
Thanks, I have the high temp permatex brand, the red stuff. Is this okay and similar to hondabond/yamabond?

Thanks for the advice! Im going to swap the gaskets as soon as i get them in. This is completely unrelated but I got my F04 tractor muffler on today and for $25 at tractor supply i couldnt be happier with the results. Next would be a 4" lift but im pretty sure you have to fabricate new A arms and extend axles but im not too excellent at welding just yet haha
