I'd also use high temp RTV, only a thin smear though, that's all it needs. The rest of the build up, such as the cam cover I use loctites equivalent of hondabond.
The manual probably says not to use it in many places but take into consideration how old your machine is, it's bound to weap or leak somewhere at some point, just as mine did.
