Check the valve clearance, as well as the cam chain tension. Those are the two that pop in my head first, as those are the first two that will give you "ticking".
Now once I was on a poker run.. and I myself had a very loud ticking noise.. turned out it was the cam gear bolts backing out, hitting the valve cover!!!!!! Found out they should have lock tight on the threads!!!
