I recently acquired a '93 300 and noticed at the back of the muffler on the bottom there is a hole with threads, what is the size of the plug/bolt that goes in there?
Good question working on that myself on my 93!

That is the spark arrestor collector. You’re supposed to be able to blow out the collected bits of hot carbon. I don’t know anyone who ever does this lols

Possible you could get cited on NF lands for not having the plug

So yours is missing? I think it’s a 14mm coarse thread – ive heard of taps in 1.00, 1.25, 1.5 and 1.75—i had to drill mine out and am looking for the proper fitting too

I believe that Is 17mm. dang near all bolts/threads on all Hondas are metric.

Yes, I tried that but it was too small
yeah, wasn't for sure if it was the same. you can try the bolt that fits in the 2000 trx350 ranchers, it '' should '' ?..be the same. but I know its metric, prob 17mm corse threads I am not sure about ?.

I had to drill my brass plug out. I have a 14mm tap which looks a bit small, but i will try to find a bolt first. Most of the plugs I’ve seen are pipe thread pitch so that’s why I haven’t fixed it yet

I don't like the way that thread gauge is sitting on them threads , not quite perfect -------- did you measure the diameter and try the mm thread gauges , would think it has to be a metric thread pitch like 1.50, 1.75. 2.00 -----

Yep..... It comes close to 1.50 , but still doesn't match as good as 18 ....... My 97 doesnt have one, it was like that when johnny sold it to dave I'm taking mine to get a match soon..... This is what i don't wont to happen (seen this issue a lot @ the shop) so i think purging that build up is a good idea my metric gauge shows it to be 17 mm

Credit for the pic goes to fish

So you think it might be 17 x 1.50 MM ----------- I have never gotten one out , always tighter than Dick's hat band

I remember that pic , I got a tail pipe that fit right over that muffler , tried to find another one and never could , I bought a 96 muffler from Caltric before , it is still on the 2wd 300 ---if I remember right a muffler for a 300 is like $600+ and I wonder if they are still even available any more , I know I will never buy a new OEM muffler from Honda

I know my 92 300 was a different muffler , I put a 88 muffler on it , the one that makes a big U right out the exhaust port and it worked fine , the mounting bolts lined up , the later models muffler didn't line up with the mounting bolts , -- don't know a lot about 93 300s , one of the only years I have not had ----
