Hoping someone can give me some advise or direction. First time riding/working with quads.

From what I understand to get this quad into reverse I have to pull in the clutch handle with the "reverse assist" engaged to be able to pull up on the reverse lever. Is this correct or is there more to it?

From reading the manual I see the reverse assist cable connects to the reverse selector shaft. I do not know this process or how this all functions. But in my case the reverse selector shaft does not turn. The reverse selector arm is turned as far as it can to the left and is resting on the frame of the quad. I'm guessing at this point it is wrong and that is why I cannot pull the reverse lever up to engage reverse?

When i bought the quad a few weeks back my buddy put in a new clutch for me. Is it possible to put the shaft in incorrectly and if so would it stop the quad from going into reverse?

are you pulling the clutch in..when you reach down and pull the reverse lever up ?..it won't shift into reverse unless your pulling the clutch handle lever in..then pull the reverse lever up..if this isn't working..then i would say the guy didnt put it back together right.

Ok thanks shadetree.

Can anyone explain how the reverse assist works? Generally what is happening when the reverse selector shaft turns when you pull in the clutch assist?

What happens when #16 (reverse selector shaft) turns?

I feel stupid cause it was so simple but here was the resolution:

The reverse selector arm that the cable attaches to was on wrong. The cable arm should be sitting on the top of the shaft and NOT on the bottom like it was.

I realize it when i took the cable off getting ready to pull off the crankcase cover and noticed the shaft did turn just not in the "direction" the cable was trying to pull arm hanging from the bottom.... Spun it up and bingo! :icon_ lala:

Baby steps!

Number 6 in diagram.
