Can anyone help with getting my fuel cap to lock in? It's like it doesn't go far enough down for the tabs to come out and lock it in?
Thanks

P.s. I should add that this is a working second hand cap I got to replace the old one that was totally seized

Soak it in penetrating oil or diesel for a few days Pip. If that doesn't work, tap it with the back of a spanner/screwdriver or similar. Those tabs seize up.

Hi Sam. The cap actually works perfectly (as shown in the vids). The problem is that I can't seem to be able to press it down enough for the tabs to physically be able to pop out.

I saw someone on a forum ages ago with the same problem, but can't remember anything about it annoyingly lol.

@Goober do you know anything? Did different years have a slightly different cap? Because I'm stumped as to why it's not working lol
the caps fit all models from 1986 to 1989. have you checked the lip on the tank for damage ?. if the tabs are popping out in your hand when you compress the under side ?, then it should do the same on the tank, unless !!!!!!!!!!!..the lip on the tank is messed up ?.

Thanks shadetree. I did think of that but couldn't see any obvious damage. I'll have a closer inspection tomorrow, taking some measurements etc. Thanks!

Thanks for the help people ?. Managed to get it all to work.
The problem was that someone had taken the seal around the edge out and put it back in with loads of glue. Therefore the cap was sitting a few millimetres too high. I took the seal out and removed the 2mm of glue and now it's perfect ?
