1992 250x Rear Axle Nut Removal

First just like to start by saying hi. New to the forums and new to quads. Been reading the post and this is a great site.

For a winter project I picked up a 1992 250x ($400). It runs OK but needs a ton of work. The previous owner did not take very good care of the machine and I found it his barn collecting dust and starting to rust.

The first thing I'm trying to tackle is the rear axle bearings. Or after reading post on this site, I'm guessing I'll be replacing the bearing carrier. The problem I'm having right off the bat is getting to the outer axle circlip to remove it. Am i supposed to turn the axle nut first to expose the clip? I read something (on another site) that said I had to turn the nut to expose and remove the clip but no mater how hard i try the nut will not budge. Its a bit rusty so I've been spraying it with WD40 but so far no luck.

I'm sneaking this post in while at work so i'll post pic's when i get home.

Any help at all would be great.
PS. I'm a total NOVICE so use "little" words!

Ok I found this Pic in another thread i hadn't seen. ( next step get a manual... )

For one I'm using a pipe wrench and not a lock nut wrench.
I was able to get the inner nut free, but the outer nut will not move to allow me to remove the clip. I see in the middle photo the wrench is on the right side of the axle so i'm assuming they are turning the nut to the right to expose the clip.
Can someone confirm this for me?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums... The outer nut will loosen just as any nut then you can run the inner towards the rotor and then run the outer in to access the clip after they both are out of the way. just like the picture. the 250X was know for the nuts to seize usually if you get one loose the other will follow.keep us posted and good luck

Got it finally. Nothing a pipe wrench a 5 foot pipe and my 300lb cousin couldn't take care of. She fought hard but finally let go with a loud crack and a long squeal!

That was one tough nut to crack!
