Looking for some help on diagnosing and repairing brake noise on a Honda Fourtrax 300 (1990). I have taken brake drum off, cleaned, checked brake drum and re-installed. Pads are only about 2-3 years old with low miles. With brakes losened up all the way, so the don't work, the brake pads rub on drum when turning. When I had it apart it felt like the axle had too much play. If this is the case, do I need to replace the bearings holding axle or most likely replace the bearings and axle? Anything else that might cause the axle to have more play than it should? Have a Climers manual so I think I can tackle, just want to figure out what parts I should order to replace.

Thanks.

welcome to the forum. it definitely sounds like your bearings are shot, but you shouldnt have to replace the axle unless its bent or something. you'll need to replace all of the oil/dust seals too.

agreed ^^^^^..your bearings are bad....you could have a bent axle ??..more than likely your bearings are shot..as stated above..change out your bearings..seals..make sure you tear it down..and inspect all of your bearings..there is 3 bearings alone in the differental..another bearing in the brakes backing plate..there will be a seal near the backing plate too.
