I just seen this add on Craig's List New Orleans , 2 1987 350's for $1,500 ------but what caught my eye is they used a 300 ex carb on it
Nice catch! are you saying a 1988 300ex carb could be moded to this?

mine is very similar except almost like new. It was bought new and owner sent to prison for 17 years, i picked it up. It worth a new carb!

Can you not rebuild your old one??
I am a good auto mechanic, carbs are not my forte and as cheap as aftermarket are ($40) vs a $18 rebuild kit, lot easier just to bolt a new one on a be done with it. I have considered sending the old one off to have someone rebuild it right :wink
a 40 dollar china carb is no where near a 18 dollar rebuild kit..lol.

Don't know where you came up with 1988 300ex , I don't think the 300ex came out till around 1994 , all I know from reading the add was the guy has a 300ex carb on his 1987 350D and says it runs great , if I were interested in the mod , to make it easier to find a carb as the 350 D carb must be rare in a good used condition and non-exsistant new , I would call the number on the ad and talk to the guy and see what he did

To the OP, don't buy a $40 carb, odds on it won't work and never will. There Chinese made and are junk, fact. These questions of $40 carbs are a weekly occurrence on here now and nearly all members say the same as I have above.
Without doubt you will be far better off rebuilding your OEM carb.

You can download the service manual and clean the carb good and put a Shindy kit in it. Follow the carb disassembly, reassembly and adjustments to a "T"... skip nothing, adjust cables when you put it back on, flush the tank, lines, replace filter... it will probably run like a new bike!

Update after all this time! Bought a carb that fits 300. Changed throttle cable out and runs like a champ! Plastic air duct from filter to carb is on the tight side for fit, but seals good. The carbs for TRX350D are just not out there and the rebuild kits are not exact. Best option is the 300 carb

if i'm not mistaken ?, the trx300 carbs run leaner than the trx350D carbs !, don't have my service manuals in front of me, please check the jet sizes between the two, and see what they are ??, BEFORE you ruin that 350 motor !.

Well you say it runs and I’m happy for you; disappointed you didn’t go OEM though.

Carbs for these are pretty easy to find–but not new OEM–I bought a parts only 86-89 carb on fleaBay for $40; put in a $20 Shindy kit, $40 starter valve and it’s ready for one of five 86-87s I have. They are EASY to clean, rebuild and tune. I use Berryman Chemtool, plumbers acid brushes, dental brushes, pipe cleaners. I spray all the screw heads with Deep Creep and put carb in freezer overnight before I work on it.

Btw I need to update this pic that oring should not be in the starter jet.

If it’s a QA03A and you’re not gonna use it LMK if you want to sell

Those old carbs are available cheap used as Goober said. I see them for sale on the fLeebay often. They are also one of the easiest Honda carbs to clean and setup to factory original specs too. In fact, unless yours has been in a garage fire or spent a few years buried in mud, its probably easily repairable. There are no valid excuses... you screwed up.
