hi guys new here just bought a 1988 Honda Foreman 350 and she has no spark all lights come on and it cranks but has no spark and the fuel pump wont come on. It came with no coil and no cdi so i bought both of those put them on and still have no spark. I tested the pulse generator and that is good, tested the kill switch and even tried putting the wires together and still no spark. When i unplug the neutral safety wire down by the kick start the pump will come on but then i am not able to crank the motor. I tried grounding it out (harness side) and then it cranks but the fuel pump wont work again. All fuses are good. Im completely confused any help is greatly appreciated. I also tried deleting the key switch and that did nothing as well. The only other thing i will add is the electric fuel gauge is missing and the wires are just hanging there, not sure if that will have anything to do with it. thanks

Are there any aftermarket parts on it? Everything OEM Honda? Is the wiring harnesses clean and in good condition? No splicing or hacking been going on? Your issues are usually pretty easy to diagnose, but we gotta know what we are working with...

Welcome to the forums! Got any pics of your Foreman to share?

You installed an OEM coil and CDI? The 88 CDI is different unit from previous years; want to make sure you didn’t get an “86-89 CDI.”

Here’s a NOS fuel gauge

Did you download the service manual and do you have a copy of the wiring diagram? Try to perform the troubleshooting in chapter 17

no i replaced it with what looks like an aftermarket marked "87-89" with the part number 30410-HA7-650 which when i look up on honda matches a 88 model...maybe its junk? when i turn the bike on i notice that when its in neutral the light is nice and bright and when i shift into gear the light stays on but gets dim and i still have no spark.

While you’re waiting for the OEM part, inspect the neutral switch connection and switch. The switch is under a small black cover two bolts. Right side case behind where you heel would be.
If you don’t have a cover (they go missing sometimes) then a big old boot might have damaged the wire connector. It’s also possible the switch is bad.
The service manual and a meter can help you test it. We can help you thru that part too.
