I need to replace the front wheels and tires. I am wondering if I can get away with going to a 12x7 rim with a 5+2 off set and a 23x8x12 tire. Does anyone have any Idea if this combo will work?

Reason I want to go this route if I can is because I want a more modern look and the old wheels and tires are shot.

Bike is a 1987 Fourtrax 250 Utility

Yep, it'll bolt right up, do it. You have the same front bolt pattern (4/110) as all rest of honda utility ATV's from then on. I have 23-8-12's on my Rancher. Lots of tires available in the that size too.

also, rear larger tires tend to rub the muffler !, unless ya use spacers :).

There was a thread recently where @fishfiles said he used to run 25's all around on his old 250 utilities, so the 23's you want to run should clear no problem.

With a 5+2 offset wont the wheel be moved in 1 inch closer? If I am not mistaken the stock is 4+1 offset. Fenders don't look like they will be and issue but the bar on the front will be an issue.
Moving that one inch closer could for sure be a problem if you were sticking with 10 inch rims. But you're going up to 12 inch. Maybe fish has experience with that on 12 inch rims too on the 250.

if ya find that thread ?, i'd like to see 25's on a stock trx250 !, I don't see how they can mount without some mods ?, because there is no room under the front for 25's to clear everything without issues ?, I could be wrong ?, but having owned one of these models moons ago, I know for a fact it's tight in the front, and the muffler in the rear won't take large wide tires without rubbing the muffler.

I must have had about every combination on the 250, 9 10,12's inch rims in the rear with 25x12 tires and 12's in the front with 25x8's , and the tires and rims I put on the 250's was the ones off of different year 300's , my formula is try it and see if it works and wheel spacers when needed , I have a lot more experiences with running that 250A rear end in a 300

Up front an 8” will be fine as long as you use the correct offset rim, I’ve added a picture of a 25 10 12 next to the front for comparison just to show you would need a larger offset rim even for an 8”

A rear picture too... 25 10 12 should just about clear the muffler and will definitely clear the fenders. My exhaust is taken off at the moment so I couldn’t get an accurate image.

Looks like fish already answered that in better detail already anyway, but here is the post I was referring to: http://www.hondaatvforums.net/forum...108041-barn-find-need-help-2.html#post1045809

And I'm not sure why anyone is even questioning why wide 25's would fit on the rear when the 250 utilities came stock with wide 25's on the rear...

Your right TT, mine has 12” wide tyres on the rear already and would clear the muffler if they were tall enough. Think there only 20’s or 21 lawn tyres!

Except where you said "and the muffler in the rear won't take large wide tires without rubbing the muffler."

Anyway, back on topic, I hope OP got the info he was looking for. I for one will be putting 23's on the front of ours when the time comes. And will be sticking with wide 25's on the back.

it depends on the rear rim off set bro ?, this plays a lot on rear tires hitting the muffler..ive seen it many times !.
