Hello all,

I'm new to the forum and stumped on a gas tank issue with a 1986 Honda TRX 125 gas tank. So I just purchased this little gem for my collection and discovered two tiny pin holes in the bottom of the gas tank. In an effort to not have to reseal the tank, I located another tank and discovered that the original tank has a big dimple in the upper front area of the tank where the steering lock arm has room to swing freely and not gouge the tank. The newly acquired tank has no dimple and clearly gets hit from the steering lock arm. I have checked into this and according to Honda, they have one part number which fits the 85-86 trx 125. So anybody have any experience with this?? P.S. The dimple looks clean no rust, pain,t cracks chipping etc. I'm stumped. Thanks in advance.

That is correct. The only tanks that will fit are 85 & 86 TRX125. You'll have to get the right one. You can also check on the Clarke website and see if they make a plastic tank for your year & model...? Those won't rust out but don't come with any decals on them either.

Welcome to the forums!

Thanks for the response. Just out of curiosity, are you aware of what the dentless tanks fit? 87/88 models are completely different. The 85/86 models are the only other 125s. The 200s and 250s are completely different also. This is just blows my mind.

Got no idea... every year model is intentionally different from every manufacturer, else they'd have nothing different to offer prospective buyers. You can use Partzilla for a parts interchange resource. Its pretty reliable.

Got a feeling atc125 tanks will also fit the trx125.

3 wheelers were banned from sale here in the U.K. Because of there stability issues and mindless riders. Anyway, there was a company in the Midlands that specialised in bolt on conversions for the atc125 to make it into a 4 wheeler. I was lucky enough some years back to own two of these and all the parts they used were trx125, brakes, hubs, steering stem, the whole lot. The two I owned, one was an 86 the other an 85, one had a steel tank the other plastic. After much research (only word of mouth and internet based) I found the tanks were the same as ATC125.
Now, I can't guarantee this as I could never find an ATC tank for sale over here to replace my rotten steel one, but maybe there is hope that they are the same.

Hope this helps.

Edit: just an after thought, maybe the plastic tank on the 125 I owned was an aftermarket result of the 3 to 4 wheeler conversions, I don't know.
