i recently tore down, soaked, and rebuilt my carb. after reinstalling, it was flooding horribly. after changing out all the new carb guts back to the old ones and still getting the same result, we pulled the choke mechanism out of the carb and now it idles fine (a little high) but it idles without spitting fuel out everywhere and that's where i left off. any ideas?

Welcome to the forums. If gas is coming out the overflow, the float valve isn't sealing the fuel inlet off. By removing the choke plunger, the carb is getting more air which is why it's idling higher and because it's idling higher, it's burning the fuel faster than it can run out the overflow tube. That's my guess anyway.

you still got jets stoped up..or you have trash stuck somewhere in the carb.

Since it's flooding, I'm guessing that the float valve is sticking open, because if the jets were stopped up it wouldn't be flooding.

i understand why it's flooding helmut..why it runs when he removed the choke how ever..is another story..he's running it without the choke piston enrichment in it..and this will cause the engine to run rich. that engine will never run right without the choke in it. thats why i menntioned to make sure he cleans the jets out

the carb float is seating because it has an electric fuel pump, and when you shut the engine down the fuel pump runs with the key on. No fuel coming out of the vents, so the float is ok. what he forgot to mention is that with the choke assembly pulled out of the carb it will only run at idle. it will not take the fuel at all. as soon as you touch the gas it dies. sounds to me like some trash actually got in it from cleaning. it ran great before the rebuild.

If it ran great before the rebuild, why did he rebuild it?

well when he bought it wouldnt run right, so the carb had to be rebuilt. ran great afterwards. we didnt have a kit so some makeshift o-rings were made. ordered a new carb kit to get all the proper components. went ahead and soaked it again, and put it all back together. now this is happening. the kit came with all new jets and everything, but we even resorted to putting all the old stuff back in to see if that would work. it didnt. as of today it was soaked overnight, and cleaned out again. its still doing the same thing.....weird.
