86 foutrax 250 , i ran the guts out of her today to make sure everything was sound just in case i pull the trigger on selling it and i noticed smoke coming around the sides of the gas tank. i parked it turned it off and it was smoking pretty good, the only thing i could think is the valve covers where you adjust the valves ? can i cut new gaskets or do i need to order those, is there anything else it could be? im not seeing obvious oil leaking anywhere..also while im there im gonna check the valves any one know the specs??

I would run a test on the oil temp sensor circuit. Sounds like Your overheat light should have come on

I tested the oil temp light all is good there and the oil doesn't smell burnt.
