I have a 1986 250 fourtrax 2x4 that the starter and reduction gear have stripped teeth. I have both side covers off and the one way bearings seem to be working by hand. I noticed when you try and kick start it that it kicks back a little bit at the end and the one way bearing and gear on the starter side spins backwards for just a second or two. I think this is what is stripping the teeth off but not sure why it is doing this.
Any thoughts on why this is happening?
Thanks

if your model has the compression release it might be out of adjustment, my foreman was doing the same thing kicking back while I was kick starting it when I got the machine one of my gears was broke in half, replaced gear and readjusted the compression release now I can start it either way and its fine, hopes this helps some
