Hello folks, New guy here. I'm the proud owner of a 86' straight axel that is in need of some TLC. First issue is the front brakes...rusted, corroded, seized etc. By the time I replace needed parts I'll be close to the cost of a disk conversion set up. Has anyone done a disk conversion on these old straight axel's? Super ATV set up?
It looks to me like things could bolt up with out fab work???

Note: I have searched the treads but nothing seems to be definitive.

Hey Adam i have two of these
No just have to scratch around for brake parts or buy a parted out front axle or hub.
Be careful about 86 model parts the other year part numbers may be different and won’t fit

Hey Goober, Thank you for the insight! Copy, NO bolt on disk set up. I have been hunting around and located a complete front drum set up(-the hubs) pulled off a 2003 Forman. Again not an expert on these girls yet, but looking over the service manual and keeping my fingers crossed that the bolt pattern is the same on steering knuckle they will bolt right up? Any idea if this has been tried before?

I don’t know of any application that would substitute. are your backing plates good?
You can try rebuilding your wheel cylinders Seals still available.

Hi, just an update and FYI for everyone. I was able to successfully upgrade front brakes on my 86' 350, with a little work I was able to bolt up a set from a 2003 Honda Forman. You must pull and mount the cross over hardline from bottom to top and bend the tab where the main line attaches. The only noticeable difference is the newer style drum has two bolt locations instead of one one the older style spindle. See pic's for reference.

Are those the OEM wheels? Your adjustments on the hardline didn’t result in them rubbing the wheel? The rubber hoses are already pretty close

Yes sir, stock 11 inch wheels. The clearance issue with hardline was the sterling knuckle. flip from bottom to top and cleared just fine. Rubber vent lines clear and will be addressed with zip ties. Good positive feel on the brakes.
