The splines on the outside of my shifter shaft have stripped as well as inside the shift pedal. Does anyone know if you have to split the case to put in a new shaft? Also, is there any front end parts that will swap out from newer year models? My 250 has seen to many trees and pulls to the right really bad. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums. You don't have to split the case, but you do have to remove the left side crankcase cover and the right side crankcase cover. It goes in from the left side, but you have to align the clutch lever on the splines on the end of the shaft on the right side once you get it in.

As far as it pulling to the right, have you checked the front end alignment? Also, make sure your tire pressure is the same on both sides.

Thank you for the help you guys. As far as the pulling, I that both tire pressures were the same and it still pulls. I asked about front end parts because I am afraid it could be in the A-arms. I also don't trust the tie rod ends and ball joints that are in it, I figure they are probably 25 years old too. Do you set the alignment like a car with a tape measure? Also one more question then I'll quit. Is there any other common gas tank that will fit on that frame, I dont care if the fenders go back on or not. I'm sure you all know how bad those tanks rust out, and right now I have a lawnmower tank strapped to the front rack. It's pretty rough looking. Thank you all agian.

Yes, you can do it that way.

Not sure about that. The Fourtrax 200 tank might be close.

I have the 84 TRX and purchased a plastic gas tank a year or so ago. It works fine and fits...umm.. ok... but once I had my plastic one on I found out that my old one could be resealed. It's in great shape, I just bought a different one before I thought about fixing the old one.
So you might consider that.

I would try to adjust the alignment with the tie rod ends.

how do you remove the left crankcase cover ? i have all the bolts removed on mine and it still wont come out like theres something bloking it by the shifter shaft
Did you remove the starter reduction gear cover on the left cover and remove the starter reduction gear first? If so and you have all the bolts out, it might just be catching on the shifter shaft. You may need to pry out that side a little first and then pry out the other side. Don't let the cover get crooked. Try to keep it coming off as straight as possible. Be careful where you pry. Don't damage the mating gasket surfaces and be careful you don't break part of the cover off when you pry.
