You can check the oil temp sensor using a multimeter set on resistance mode. The sensor should measure between 9.5k - 10.5k Ohms at room temp (25 degrees C, 77 degrees F). It sounds like yours is shorted, so check the wiring and harness plugs first for a short to ground.

I can think of three things it could be , a bad sensor , a bad alarm box ( next to the cdi ) which controls the temp light or a wiring problem ---I think I would disconnect the temp sensor and see if the light goes out , if it does , I would think it could be a wiring short

Where is the oil temp sensor located? I'm having a hard time finding it!
