Hi everyone, I am new to this fourm & a new owner to a 1985 Fourtrax 250. I recently decided to sell my ATC 185s & go for 4 wheels, mainly because i wanted reverse & electric start, but was also hoping to be able to mount a winch. It was a toss up between the Fourtrax 250 & a Big red 250 but I figured I'd have better luck getting a winch for the Fourtrax. I don't have a problem finding a winch, but no luck finding a mount for the ATV. Does anyone have any ideas or know of a mount that will work from other models or years? I would really like to make something work as this ATV is in real nice shape, I would give it a 8-9 out of 10. I am the 3rd owner & it has been garaged kept & seldom used since new. If it makes a difference, apart from the standard front rack system, it has what looks like a factory bush bar mounted on the front as well. Thanks for you help!

i had a trx250..and no..you cannot find a after market winch mounting bracket for it..you have to make one yourself..it's not hard to do..if your not concerned about doing some cutting..i used an old warn 2000 lb winch..i had to cut back the very front of the fender in order for it to mount under there. it turned out really good..this is about all i can tell you..you will need to fab your own metal mounting plate..it's not hard...welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the info, I can get a mount from a 2003 350, should I use that as a starting point & modify it as necessary or best to go to a metal shop & have something made from scratch?
your best bet..measure under the front..see how wide and deep you need to make the metal..then have a metal shop cut it for you..make sure you make it wide enough..and deep enough..it's best to have a winch..so you can get a really good idea on your measurements !..after you see what you need..have it cut...drill out your mounting holes for the winch...and also your holes to mount the metal to the frame ( this is if you don't weld it to the frame ? )..if you decide to weld it..then just drill the holes for the winch to mount to the metal...MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG YOUR C.D.I IF YOU WELD IT !..now..keep in mind..the taller the winch..the more you will need to cut back your front fender..this is why i went with a old 2000 lb warn winch..they are not very tall to begin with. if you go with a new style winch..you may need to cut back alot for your winch to clear the front fender...keep us posted !
