I have an 09 rancher IRS with 27" zillas.. Contemplating on a SRA gear reduction which I believe is 18%? Is this enough to notice a difference? Does it work with both front and rear axles? On a scale of 1-10 what is the diffuculty level of instal? Ant problems to look out for? etc.. Just want a little more snap after bigger tires, and I do alot of technical riding so I don't want a clutch kit...

rtregod, have you tried an HMF pipe and optomizer? With your set up like mine you will gain much more pep than you had before the tires. From what I have read the reduction is the output gear in the trans not in the axles, and I think its 20%. Also have to split the case to do it. I have been wanting to have a lower crawl ratio as well, but the pipe and optomizer has settled down my want for it.

Yeah, the gear reductions aren't in the differentials, it's in the transmission. I'm not sure about the gear reduction for the auto transmissions, but on the standard 5 speed transmissions, the gear reduction just involves changing the primary drive gear on the end of the crankshaft and the gear on the back of the clutch basket, to different size gears.

Whats an optimizer?? Plus a new hmf pipe and whatever an optimizer is will set me back alot more $ than 60$ gears. I am just leary of tearing into the engine....

From your pics it looks like you are running zillas too? What size? Your rancher IRS? With my bike the way it is it isn't too sluggish, but not where i would like to have it. I can barely get the front end off the ground when I pound on the wick..Dont need to be doing wheelies, I just dont want her to run out of juice 3/4 of the way up a steep hill and have to watch it go tumbling back down...

o.k so I googled what an optimizer is. Basicaly a computer control box which alters or modifies the fuel system to get the best performance..Kinda like a chip for a car. But I also read that you need to have the hmf pipe also so that you dont dammage engine. I'm just guessing here but both of these will run around 600$ total..Is it really worth that...?????

Wow question overload. LOL Yes it is IRS , I am running 27" Zillas on 12" rims. and I paid around 430 to my door for the HMF package on Ebay, and boy it is worth every penny. So much more vroooom. Out of the mods I have done it is by far the best. Now you being in Montana you my have to play with the settings. I am close to the same elevation as HMF defalt settings so I didn't have to adjust, and temp didn't bother me much ether. I would rather do the pipe and programmer than split the case untill I have to. I still have 3 more years on my warrenty.

Thanks for the info! Yea i was reading on the hmf website and I think I would have to adjust it alot cuz where I live in town is about 2900 ft above sea level, and where we ride it can go as high as 6000 ft!! And it gets colder than a well diggers [email protected]#!!
