hey guys,

ive got a 2009 fourtrax 420, that recently starting having this issue. The machine will crank and hesitate to start for a good 3-4 seconds and once it does start it idles high then will usually stabilize back to a normal rpm. I say usually because sometimes i have to give it a quick rev then it will stabilize. Temperature isnt a factor as this was happening in the summer months aswell. Hoping someone has any insight on this or any suggestions.

how old is the fuel ?, been sitting a good while ?, fuel injector clean ?. getting enough fuel from tank ?. that model is common for the fuel pumps to go bad.

You can replace the fuel in the tank with fresh premium no ethanol fuel—add proper amount of seafoam or Berryman Chemtool fuel injector cleaner and drive it around for 15-20 minutes. Should improve.

If not, try lightly spraying carb cleaner into the throttle body (while it’s running) to knock down the sticky stuff.
