Hey guys, I've read a lot on here and learned quite a bit but had a question i was hoping someone could help me with. Im selling my 99 Polaris Ranger and buying a Rancher. Ranger just keeps giving me trouble and want an EFI atv and am going with a honda. Ive found a 07 Rancher in great shape that I am going to look at and probably buy this weekend. It is a TRX420FM7, 2007 Rancher 4x4 Electric Start, foot shift, SRA. Some I've found have had black wheels and some had the silver wheels on them. Is there a difference in model or did some just come each way? I can't seem to get an answer on that. I have kept going back and forth on the electric thumb shift vs foot shift and the foot shift just seems more reliable but without experience its hard to know. Any suggestions on which way to go with the shift? Thanks so much. Also will mainly be using for some trail riding and mostly hunting in the woods. Light mudding but not really as big into that aspect as I used to be. Thanks again for any help

Welcome to the forum. From what I remember, the wheel color typically followed along with different color plastics.
For example, red plastic had silver rims, yellow had black, etc. But then the next model year it could be the inverse of that.

most sxs's have black rims, then you have after market rims owners put on, but from the factory, most honda atvs have silver/gray steel rims, with the exception of newer rincons, as I think they come with aluminum rims ?. as for the model ?, I would deff go with the manual shift ( foot shift ) before I even thought about an es model..lol.

I concur with the comments above a foot shift model is more robust. I would like to add, however, the electronic versions are well-known and personally having owned both prefer electronic shift (ES). For myself, I find picking a gear up or down to be quicker/easier with thumb control vs. foot. Also for spraying along my trails, I like being able to put the can where the foot shifter would be, so I find that handy. I have owned ES models for over 15 years and have experienced zero issues and believe a portion of that is the care/attention I give my units, i.e., ES system not exposed to the elements, don’t take my ATV swimming (snorkeled/underwater) etc., and keep a well maintained battery. For an ES model, you must maintain the battery for it to operate correctly and if by chance you have a battery problem it will not shift (electronically), so you will need to use a small wrench (should be under the seat) to click it into gear and limp home, assuming you are away from home. In fact, all the Honda Pioneer 500’s come this way, ES with a small wrench so you can limp home if needed.
As for wheel color and as mentioned above, the colors tend to follow various plastic color models and now with the flood of Honda Pioneer 500s on the market the availability of “take off black factory” wheels/tires are widely available, i.e., craigslist.
