Hello first time here and rather new to atv repair. My 400 ex will catch reverse while in first gear randomly while moving locking up the back end and stalling it. Then it gets stuck in reverse and i cant get it back out (backing all the way out a trail sucks). It wont go in neutral the reverse light goes off neutral light comes on but it just sticks in reverse. If i put it in first i can feel the quad trying to pull forward but reverse is still enagaged. I know 05 06 had there recalls for something like this but nothing about 07.

What do you think the problem is? Lockout shaft? spring? Can i replace the shaft and spring without pulling the motor? Can i just pull the shaft and run no reverse? Any tips are appreciated

I just bought this machine a few days ago and the Deeper i dig the more i find. The machine goes into second while riding but there is nothing there. Fully let out the clutch and it acts as if its in neutral. Shift forks or is 2nd gear is actually gone? I havent opened anything up yet. Trying to determine if its worth the money and time.

Is there a way to tell if its Shift forks? Or if the gear is gone? Goes into second but it just revs out when i release the clutch.
