06 rancher 350 foot shift stuck between reverse and nuetral, went to shift back into neutral and the bike never clicked back over. The bike doesnt indicate that it is in either gear(R, N not illuminated). The bike also will not roll forward. It will only roll in reverse. What using the shifter it seems to only have 2 positions now, up and down not like it used to be. I have been struggling for weeks and am on my last legs.
Thanks for any help

Its probably either a slipping/loose shift lever on the splines, the reverse lockout cable/lever not releasing, or the ratcheting assembly on end of the shift drum under the front engine cover. Worse case, it could be a bent/broken shift fork or a broken off ball-end of the shift shaft. More'n likely it just needs some minor repair & routine maintenance tho.... you can find a copy of the service manual from this link if you haven't gotten one yet.

Check the service manual to see if the shifter has a return spring (inside the case). This happened to me on my ‘87 Fourtrax.

I tried to search the illustrated parts breakdowns for your model (on my links below) but couldn’t find it.

As Retro mentioned start with easiest—check the shifter arm for a loose bolt. Worst case the bolt works loose and the splines strip out. If it’s tight and looks good but the shifter is still floppy the spring may be broken.

you’ll have to get deeper into the service manual troubleshooting sections Or you can take it to the shop for repair if you’re not sure
