The first thing I would try is unplug the shift motor and put power to the 2 terminals (1 power 1 ground) and make sure it's working
The shift motor is on the front of the motor, towards the bottom. you can check it without taking it off, the connector is on the (mid/front) right side of the atv. if the motor checks fine then it could be broken wire, bad connection, ecm. ? the 30a motor fuse is good

I installed new angle sensor and unit shifted perfect for about 30 miles. Shut off unit and restarted then it would not shift. I poored water on sensor and it worked again. By cooling new sensor off with water it would work. I've heard it's hard to get a good sensor. Any thoughts?? Thanks, Tim

I have never heard of that.Next time it stops shifting try wiggling the plug and wires that go to the sensor. I'm wondering if theres a broken wire in the plug or in the wire casing.

I have a simular problem with my 500. It will up shift fine but will not down shift except by manualy shifting with temp handle. You can hear shift motor trying to move shifter and sounds the same as when upshifting. N display has flashed 5 and 8 and all connections seem to be clean and good.
