Hey guys, I am new here.

So I was rebuilding my Carb on my 05 rancher and got back and to find out some one stole my key while I was working on it at the shop. Is there a way that I can bypass, or go around the switch until I can get to the parts store and get a new switch/key Made?

Not sure if all are the same but....... There should be 2 numbers and a one letter printed on the key , did you happen to copy those down ? If so you can order a key from honda, if not i have a link to get honda blanks , I'll do some digging TN

:Edit i located the blanks, need to know if it's type 1 or type 2 , i don't know which type , anyone who owns a rancher ? For an 05 does he need type 1 or type 2 ?

Wilson, Yeah I didnt get the numbers off of it. Sadly.

Carolyn, It is super hard to pull start it. Even when I had the key. Maybe its just an electrical thing. I dont know how I could pull off the key switch to do that though. Would I just pull it from the ECU, or is there a plug on the back of the Key Switch?

EDIT: To add on to Carolyn, How would I have acess to my kill switch, or my electrics? Since they are all electric, and im taking off my electric kill switch.

the switch just pops in the dash, goes under the bars, runs down the front, under the front fender, plugs into the harness. most ranchers use a round type key switch plug. why would someone take your key while your working on it ?, ya sure you did not miss-place it ?. DO NOT '' HOT WIRE '' IT !!!!!!

So If I do that, I would be able to start it? I am also sure I did not mis place it. I tore up the shop, and my house looking for it with my friends at the shop. Its very stupid how it leaves.

When my neighbor bought his 350 Rancher it had a light switch (like a house/ wall light switch) hooked up where the key switch goes.

It worked!

And he got a title with the wheeler, otherwise might have been a red flag. LOL

It should work, since the switch for a light is a 4 Wire/Post switch, and the key start is a 4 Wire switch.

So im kinda in a spot where I either pull start it from now on, or buy a switch and key online.

My friend took it upon them self's to self tap my switch, and it didnt even work.

I really dont want to pull start it because it has about 160-165 PSI for Compression.

So im just gonna buy a new switch.

I really want to know if I can still get around the switch, and still have my electrics because if I go around it I still dont have my fan and it is about 90 here. I will get a light switch from home, and see how well that works.

Hi: You say you don't want to hot wire your bike, but you want to use a light switch -- that is hot wiring a bike in my books.

Just buy a new switch and do it right.

160-165 PSI ??? what are you using to get that reading

I agree with Mel. It's $8....shipped....for an oem switch with a key!

And it wasn't a "4 wires is 4 wires" kind of wiring. You MIGHT burn up your bike if you try to do it that way.

Either order a new switch, or pull your cylinder out of the gauge cover and find the letter/number code and order a new key for it using that code. It's not $50, it's like $7-8
