Hey! im new to the forum and Im having problems with my 400 :sad I was riding and the chain popped off, once i put the chain back on, second gear was gone. When shifted into second it acts as if it is in neutral. The reverse is also acting up, sometimes it will stay locked in reverse after you try and go out of it. The reverse light will not come on when it is locked in reverse but instead the neutral light will go on. Any help is appreciated, I dont know much about these clutches or transmissions :grin

There was a recall on the 05 400ex that put a reverse interlock return spring. I would check into that and see if it has been done. All the ones i have seen that have had the update done there is an hand stamped x in the engine serial number. With the lights being wacky it could be the same problem. Or it could be that the chain hit the wires going down to the neutral and reverse switch. They would have been right in the path of the chain being slung. The scary thing is 2nd gear is generally the gear you lose first if it is internal transmission. I would be betting the shifter dogs on the sliding shifter cogs are dull. The edges should be sharp. Almost sharp enough to cut you. Usually when you find false neutral thats the case. Could also be a broken shift fork. Where you in second gear when the chain was flung? Welcome to the forums!

It was in second gear when it popped off. Ive tried looking into that recall on how to fix it but i cant find anything about it. I have read other forums and they say that the reverse interlock spring could be at cause for this issue.
