Not necessarily. The clutch could be adjusted wrong. But i know my 300ex i had years ago would do the same thing. I found revving it while trying to put it into neutral helped alot. But from what i understand this was very common on the 300ex. I would try adjusting the clutch lever free play and see if that helps though!

My 700xx I purchased new, has always been rough going into neutral. The other one floats right in.

Easy tricks. 1. Before you come to a complete stop pop it in neutral. 2. If you at a stop rock it back and forth on your seat and pop it in neutral. 3. If you still can't get it you can shut the machine off then do it. It is really easy when the machine is off. I have been riding 300ex's since I was 5, this is what I always do. There is probably nothing wrong with the clutch. These bikes just have a harder time getting into neutral than other bikes.

I've noticed..and another?..why when in gear it won't roll freely with the clutch engaged
When you are sitting in neutral and you put it in first gear, does it kind of jump forward/ jolt the rear end? It could need a the clutch cable adjusted
Whoops sorry I didn't see slammed rangers post

Yeah your clutch is adjusted wrong. The free play in the clutch lever should be about a nickle between the lever and perch.
Diameter or thickness?? :devil

I used to have troubles getting my 400EX into neutral, It would just skip to second most of the time unless it was off.

I chalked it up to me being a noob with quads, but after I tore it down, repainted, and put it all back together, it went into neutral like butter!

My bet is the cable too.

Adjust the cable where it meets the clutch on the side of the motor so that it's just barely putting tension on arm, pulling it towards the cable/front of the bike.

Snug up the nuts, and then adjust the cable at the lever end.

Good luck!
