My 03 rancher has just started leaking gear dope.... The crazy thing is that its leaking out of the vent tube that runs from the rear end up to the fuel tank.. I haven't changed the fluids in about 5 months so not sure why all of a sudden? Any tips from previous problems? thanks

Welcome to the forums. Usually what causes gear oil to leak out the vent lines is, either it's been overfilled or the ATV has been turned over. Since you haven't changed the gear oil lately, that would probably rule out that it has been overfilled. Have you checked the gear oil level lately? Maybe it got water in it and is overfull with gear oil/water and it's trying to push it out the vent. I can't think of anything else that would cause that.

I just checked the fluid in the rear end from the check hole and i guess water has gotten in because it was pouring out... I'm gonna drain and change both tomorrow and see if that fixes the problem. thanks for the help..

You're welcome, I bet that's the problem.
