i have a 03' Honda Recon es. I have had for 5 years now and just this week it would blow blue smoke on and off. it isnt a big blow just a little blow. it has a uni air filter in it (thts clean) it has the recommended engine oil(10w. 40). it has the right amount of oil also. it idles right, runs like it always did, and shifts right. it set for all winter last year in my garage with nuthing done with it. do u think it is just oil build up on the cylinders or is it something else?

Could be the rings starting to wear or it could be the valve stem seals. Might be time for a top end rebuild.

well we had a mechanic adjust the valves on it not to long ago. i asked my dad about the smoke and he said it has always did tht for the 5 years we had it. should we still do something about this smoke? how much would new piston rings be?

If it's always done it and if it's just puffing a tiny bit of smoke from time to time and not using any large amounts of oil, I wouldn't worry about it until it gets worse.

Yup just prepare your self for the time to have it overhauled.

my honda rancher was doing that....siunds like its time for the top end to be rebuilt, piston, rings, etc.

my 03' Honda Recon has a uni air filter. people say if u run those recons with just a uni it bogs down. should i get a performance exhaust for it? like a fmf? i was thinking bout putting a performance spark plug in it. what kind should i get?

blue smoke is oil-- could be leaking head gasket letting oil in cyl, rings worn letting oil on wrong side of piston, or cylinder having some wear allowing oil to go by. watch your oil level for sure. if it gets worse or you can feel an oily slime on the tip of the muffler, get it checked to avoid a locked engine.:sad:
