I used a flat head screw driver I checked all fuses several times not sure why the gears were stuck. i got it in low now but its still comes up code 11. even when I clear the code as soon as i turn the key back to the on position the screen starts flashing immediately its like it burnt the ecm out again. when i first installed the new ecm the atv still stated in high gear but the dash said it was in first and i could shift indicator to second just the display the trans was still in high then started blinking again this was with old shift motor after installing new shift motor it came up code 5 i replaced angle sensor then flashed code 11 just as it did before not sure what to do ive ran down all points in the service manual. even the shift motor operates even when i hook it up manually i can get it to turn over hope the trans aint out but i can manually shift the bike from low to high with motor by hooking wires to it

When installing a new ECM it has to be initialized. The ECM initialization procedure must complete without errors at any stage... if your shift motor doesn't shift... then initialization was never completed successfully. The ECM is now going offline as soon as you turn the key on... nothing will ever work until you are able to complete initialization. Follow me?

You'll need to find out why the shift motor doesn't work and fix that before you'll ever be able to get the ECM working again. Start by pulling apart every plug on the bike for inspection. Make sure the frame ground for the harness is clean and tight. If your bike has a bank-angle sensor on it, check and/or reset that. Follow the troubleshooting steps in the manual to get the shift motor working... there can be any number of things wrong with it. All sensors must be plugged in and functional, including the (two?) vehicle speed sensors. It could be as simple as a stuck/bad relay...

Warning: Don't ever turn the key switch on while a device/sensor is unplugged unless the battery is disconnected. The ECM might let its smoke out if you do.... :-(
