I have an 02 Rancher ES. It starts and runs with the pull start, the electric start does not engage the starter.
Unplugging the solenoid and jumping the green and yellow wires will start it.
The diode in the fuse panel tests OK and replacing it with a jumper wire makes no difference.
The neutral light comes on as it should so it appears the neutral switch is operating.

Any ideas what to try next?

That led me to the problem. The plug for the handle bar switch was not seated tightly, I'm surprised the starter button is the only thing that didn't work.
