02 Honda foreman 450s not going in gear

Put a brand new starter on my foreman started right up out it in reverse to back out of garage and went to put it in first and it didn’t click like usual when in gear and it didn’t go forward or any other gear it will go in reverse and back to nuteral but that’s it don’t know what wrong and need answers????
