01 Honda TRX500 foreman

Hello all, got a question, just got a 01 Honda 500 4x4 Rubicon, runs real good, when going from neutral to reverse it shifts smooth, when going from reverse to any gear the shifter seems to lock, have to turn the bike off, restart it in neutral and go to drive. neutral to drive and low drive seem fine and from drive to neutral seem fine. is this just an adjustment? Thanks
