Hi, I'm kinda at a temporary loss here, my ole Rancher had what I thought was a dead battery the other day, so I go out and get a new battery. I installed it and nothing...no lights....no start? I then stuck a screwdriver between the two posts on the solenoid and she fired right up immediately. BUT, all the lights were dim and flashy. Is this the new battery? (I have no testers, voltage, ect.) is this the solenoid? Is this the rectifier? Thanks for any help. I've had this 2000 Rancher since my Dad passed away shortly after he bought it new in 2000. It had alot of sentimental value to me and it's been a part of the family for 19 years and I wanna get it back goin.

you can start by downloading the service manual and parts links in my signature block below. Or buy the service manual from fleabay or the dealer. You want the OEM, not clymer or haynes.

this sounds to me like dirty connections. If it were me, I’d get a few plumbers flux brushes, contact cleaner and permatex dielectric grease and start inspecting/cleaning connectors.

do you have a Honda shop in town? Have a visit with em and see if they’re the type if folks that might help you fix your quad.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give that a shot. We do have a honda dealer in town but they're unreliable at best. I'll pickup the supplies to do some cleaning. I pull started it this morning and took her around the yard, and the neutral light gets very dim when accelerating. She fires right up when pulled or jumped at the solenoid. Nearly 20 years old and cranks with a pull rope easier than anything I've ever owned. Lol. Thanks again

You could try and check for proper voltage at the battery coming off the reg/rec. you might start there and clean those connections.

buy a battery trickle charger. If you find the battery needs a charge when you’re done riding that’s a good signit’s not charging
