  1. '06 TRX250TM slipping clutch?

    Honda FourTrax
Is it reasonably easy to swap those components out without having to pull the motor? That's the big question.

So just pull the front cover off and inspect? How big of a job is it to change that stuff out?

I haven't been able to fully get all the power down on the quad. It's a semi-automatic, non-electric shift, TRX250. I can't find any information on this topic so I'm trying here. Whenever i'm in a high-ish gear and I give it some gas the engine RPMs go up but no power goes through the driveline...

oh and I didn't use force to put it on, I just had to tap it a little for it to set correctly. shifter works fine.

All the electrics work, even the nuetral switch and everything else the bolt that snapped was the bolt right above where the neutral switch comes out of the case. I filled it with Honda bond to prevent leaking and in the future I'll drill it out and replace it, but it doesn't seem to bad as of...

Big update. After having to cancel orders from rockymountain (because they were being stupid and sh**ty and making me wait over a month for one part), and having to wait weeks from partzilla I finally got my stator and regulator. I put it all together and screwed up the first time by putting the...

I would too if I were you :big-grin I have one last question I think about all this. How could I check if the reg/rec is bad, and would it be? Could the battery alone caused all the over volting issues, or is the reg/rec also to blame? Thanks!

Could the kit be found somewhere else? I'm ordering off of the part picker diagram.

Thanks for the help! I'm getting the positive brush kit, but I cannot order the insulator! It's not anywhere to be found, and there is no number on the ordering diagram on rockymountain. There is a little bit of it left in the starter but i'm not sure if that's enough to properly insulate. I...

You make a good point. I noticed this discoloration on the pulse coil. It's only on the top surface, not the sides of the pole. Does this mean it's a bad coil, or going bad? Also, I found lots of graphite powder and some weird brittle metal piece inside the starter, and it doesn't show up in the...

I looked at the stator more up close and personal and tested all the connections on it. I tested to see if there was continuity between one end of the exciter winding, and the other, right where the copper wire is soldered onto its leg. It was open. Which means that there is an open circuit in...

oh, forgot to mention, i'm ordering parts tonight and I'm wondering if I need to throw a new reg/rec in there just to be safe so it doesn't blow things up again

You people are Gods of small engines. I just learned a whole lot. So to summarize, because I have a brand new battery (it's an AGM btw), i shouldn't be worried about something happening again to the stator? And the headlights... what about them? Did they blow from a bad reg/rec? or was it...
  14. Short problem? Blown CDI

    Honda FourTrax
I forgot to mention, my headlights were blown out when I first got it, so I'm thinking that the reg/rec blew them out because the quad also had a not so great battery on it....

why does running with a bad battery/no battery kill the stators? and how would i check the reg/rec to see if it's the cause?
