Sticking gear shifter

My 86 Honda 350 fourtrax shifter started hanging down and I noticed a oil leak when I dropped the skid plate I found a small hole in the stator cover below the gear shifter shifter seems to be working fine now took cover off to replace it shifter gear looks good any suggestions or ideas on what I'm missing

welcome to the forums. odds are ?, the return spring is not working ?, most times the return spring pin that screws into the case right there breaks off , or ?, you did not install the return spring over the pin correctly ?.
