Newly Aquired 97’ TRX300FW 4x4

Hi! First post here!
Having previously owned a 96 TRX300FW 2x4, i recently bought a 97’ 4x4.

Looking for a bit of advice on maintenance and upgrades.

So, as far as ive concluded :
Engine Oil : 3L of 10w40 Honda GL3?

Front and Rear diff oils? I read somewhere about replacing the oil with grease, is this a viable thing to do?

Any help / tips on maintenance and upgrades be appreciated!

Thanks!

P.S the bike is not used for towing/hauling, just for low speed fun/mudding/crawling in the forestry.

I use BelRay 80W 90 hypoid oil in the diffs and the gear case attached to the engine.

You should see a link to the service manuals in my sig block. Always best to read over the specs, and i usually stick with oem replacement parts—I avoid aftermarket because of no-name reliability or performance concerns

I stick to manufacture recommended lubes and greases; that said members here will share what they use. The intent is to exceed the standard or meet a special or extreme application.

3L (3.2 qt) is too much oil. You don't want to overfill it. According to the manual:

Only 2.38 qt at oil and filter change and 2.3 qt after draining

For Rear Final Drive you use 3.0 oz after draining
For Front Differential you use 6.4 oz after draining
Both above use Hypoid gear oil, SAE #80.

For Front Gear Case you use 6.4 oz after draining. As @Goober said, above.

I cannot recommend using grease, but some people do it, especially those who ride in deep mud and water.

2 and a little less than 1/2 sounds about right ---if you do go grease in the diffs , don't go 100% grease , mix it with some oil , I like Lucas hub oil

Thanks guys! You Basically cleared up all that for me in one go!

I will go with the OEM recommended hypoid oil like you guys said, and will put 2L of engine oil in then dipstick the rest!

Thanks again!

To work out the correct fitting/setup procedure for the clutch control arm? Anyone got any tips/guides on how to do it as it all sort of came off with the clutch casing.

There is a arrow on the case and a dot on the arm , make them line up , it looks like you might be off a bit from the pic -------- I have the cover off my 300 right now ----I n=know from past bad experiences if you are one click off it will shift up but not down or vice-versa
