Nice , 2001 stuck in 4wd because of a broken cable could only mean a 4x2 kickout has been installed , you can get a rebuild kit for that 4x2 for about $120 , it makes the bike so much more fun and easier to ride with a kickout ----knocking doesn't sound too good and could be the crankshaft/connecting rod , a crank is about $400 by itself , I'd be careful on that one

shadetree welcome. knocking sound means crank, clicking sound means valves or cam chain ?. the trx450S foremans are great atvs..that is ...if its still built right, running good , and no motor work is needed ?, if it passes all of this ?, then you did great !. remove the 424, go back to full time 4wd, call it a day.
