Transmission/clutch issues

Hi all, new to this forum, thanks in advance, hope someone can help with an issue I'm dealing with
Working on a 2003 honda rancher 350 4wd footshift, bike had been swamped so naturally there was sand in the crankcase, I removed the engine and split the cases, cleaned everything thoroughly, new seals/bearings/piston/rings/honed cylinder, so on..
Got the bike back together and it runs great, however having issues with the clutches/something in the transmission.
Clutches are engaging in nuetral allowing bike to move forward, put it in reverse and it still tries to move forward, put it in 1st and it will try to move forward but will stall. Shifts through all gears fine, neutral light comes on when in neutral and reverse light comes on when in reverse.
Installed everything according to the repair manual, clutch adjusted properly and clutch disengages when pressure is applied to shift lever as it's supposed to, also have experience doing clutches/ gear reductions in hondas and haven't had any issues till now. Anyone have any suggestions?

any chance you installed the one-way centrifugal clutch bearing in backwards ???. if not ?, then you installed something wrong with the change clutch ?.

I agree with shadetree that it sounds like your one-way could be in backwards so you might be checking that. And since you can free up the drive with the change clutch that sounds like it's good.

But even with the one-way in backwards, neutral is supposed to be neutral and you shouldn't be able get any power to the wheels no matter what engine rpm or issue with the clutches. Neutral is neutral is neutral if gears are in right place. And reverse is supposed to be reverse. Do that makes me believe you have one of the gears flipped or in the wrong position or something. So I think you have 2 separate issues here.

Are you getting proper 2nd-5th gear ratios while going?
